Sandy found herself in a difficult position after her partner Jimmy had been diagnosed with leukaemia and needed to take time off work to undergo treatment. Although Sandy continued working, their financial situation became challenging, and they fell into rent arrears when Jimmy stopped working.

With the gap in income, Sandy struggled to keep up with bills and faced the threat of eviction. With balancing her job, supporting Jimmy through his treatment, and the looming eviction, Sandy felt the strain on her mental wellbeing.

Upon discovering GroceryAid at work, Sandy called the free and confidential Helpline. After reviewing their situation, GroceryAid provided a financial grant to cover some of their rent arrears. This support alleviated their financial stress, allowing Sandy and Jimmy to remain in their home and focus on Jimmy’s recovery.

“Thank you so much. This financial support means the world to us. Life has been tough over the last couple of years. You’ve come to our rescue and prevent us from becoming homeless, for which we are so grateful. Thanks again.”

If you’ve experienced a drop in household income as a result of a long-term illness or diagnosis, you might be eligible for a GroceryAid financial grant. Our grants are here to support you and don’t need to be paid back. Find out more about our financial grants and eligibility criteria here.
