When Khaleda’s relationship ended, she was left unable to pay rent. Despite receiving Universal Credit, she had missed two payments and began to fall into arrears. The anxiety of this rising debt and the possibility of losing her family home was keeping her awake at night and the stress was affecting her ability to work.
Khaleda’s manager suggested she reaches out to GroceryAid, where she applied for a financial grant. Donna, her dedicated grants officer, contacted her to gather the necessary information and evidence of her Universal Credit statement, and once all the documentation had been received, she reviewed Khaleda’s full application. Looking at Khaleda’s stressful situation, Donna offered her additional support, including free counselling and legal advice to help Khaleda rebuild her life and regain financial stability.
Just one week later, Khaleda received confirmation of the non-repayble grant to clear her rent arrears and within two weeks the payment was in her account.
“The grant does not need to be repaid and Donna was friendly and helpful. I did have to provide my bank information, but this was done in a secure, confidential way and I am really happy with the result which has left me able to sleep.”
