Michael’s Story


Michael had a knee operation in the summer and although he recovered, had exhausted his company sick pay and used up his savings.

In January, Michael’s housemate tested positive for Covid-19 and although he wasn’t showing any symptoms, Government guidelines meant he had to self-isolate for ten days.

After exhausting his Company Sick Pay Michael was moved to Statutory Sick Pay, making paying bills a struggle. In addition, he had become anxious about testing positive for Covid, which would leave him in more financial difficulty.

Through GroceryAid’s FREE Helpline Michael was able to access ‘in the moment’ emotional support to discuss his anxiety with a BACP accredited counsellor. GroceryAid also pledged a one-off financial grant from its COVID-19 Fund to help Michael’s situation.
