Helping to restore independence
Bert* explains how GroceryAid has helped to restore his mobility following a heart attack.
Bert*, who worked as a delivery driver for many years, has recently suffered severe health issues. After suffering a heart attack he subsequently developed Osteo and Rheumatoid arthritis which has had a detrimental effect on his mobility.

"One thing led to another and at times it is a struggle to get out of bed. It has not only affected my life it has affected both my daughter and wife too. My wife has had to become my Carer as I am unable to care for myself."
That day changed all of our lives and has just got harder over the years.
Bert's wife is now his main Carer, juggling this commitment with part-time work for a supermarket. Due to his lack of mobility Bert is now increasingly housebound and struggling to come to terms with this sudden lack of independence.
A GroceryAid Caseworker visited the couple at their home to discuss how we might be able to help. This led to Bert and his wife being enrolled onto the GroceryAid Carers Programme. In addition to this regular support, a mobility scooter was arranged for Bert, which will greatly assist him to get around independently.
