Gary's story

Gary*, in his early 50s, worked in shop management selling confectionery and groceries for eighteen years. His relationship with a long-term partner had broken down leaving him with debts he was unable to pay. This was a very dark time for Gary who had also become incapable of working due to ill health.

Taru is excited to share the respite break given to her and her husband by GroceryAid. Taru is the main Carer for her husband and one of 6.5 million Carers in the UK. Taru is part of the GroceryAid Carer Programme which relieves some of the stress caused by caring through quarterly grants worth up to £884 p/a, annual respite breaks worth up to £300 p/a, access to the Helpline, counselling and more.
