Winter support for beneficiaries

Winter can be an anxious time for some of the most vulnerable amongst us. The financial demands posed by increased fuel bills and the emotional impact of missing loved ones or feeling lonely, particularly over the Christmas period, fills many with dread.

We recognise that this can be a difficult time for our beneficiaries and are pleased to share that, thanks to the generous fundraising support of our industry this year, we've been able to arrange a little extra cheer to those in need this Christmas.

In addition to the quarterly grant of £280 sent to those in receipt of our regular support we have also been able to provide:

  • An extra £75 grant to help towards fuel bills.
  • Beneficiaries with dependent children under 18 will receive an extra £150 for each child.
  • Voucher hamper totalling £45 for each household - generously donated by a number of retailers and suppliers.

This support means that GroceryAid was able to pay a total of £765,365 to beneficiaries on 30th November.

Mandi Leonard, Welfare Director said; “This support comes at a crucial time for our beneficiaries and will go towards helping them celebrate Christmas with family and friends in a way many of us take for granted.”

Plymouth Christmas Outing 2018.jpg
I received my December payment and would just like to thank you for it. I was struggling with rent arrears and with your help managed to clear it before the promised date. We won’t have much this Christmas but we will have peace, love and each other.

Christmas outings

We've also been busy hosting Christmas outings events right across the country for around 800 of our beneficiaries. The outings provide a respite from social isolation, offer a chance to meet up with others locally and be treated to an enjoyable day out.

Before going to your Christmas lunch I hadn’t been to any social gathering for six years. I had a great time and met some new faces, thank you so much.
